We Did It!
Posted on March 30th, 2010 by Patrick Romano in 40 Days to Health Reform, California Needs ReformWE DID IT! WE MADE HISTORY!
Last Thursday - on the 38th day of our 40 Days to the Finish Line campaign - the House and Senate passed the final health care bill which President Obama will sign into law today! And I’m sending this message to congratulate and thank all of you who helped make it happen!
And I don’t want you to forget how we did it. The work that HCAN-California did to contribute in righting what Dr. Martin Luther King once called “a shocking and inhumane” injustice in our health care system was achieved through the combined effort of our collective advocacy and activism over the past 21 months.
You made history every single day during this historic campaign for health care reform - by signing petitions, knocking on doors, talking to family and friends, telling your health care stories, calling and writing your Members of Congress and joining us across the state for town halls, Congressional visits, marches and rallies.
I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion in winning legislation that is as important as Social Security, MediCare and Civil Rights. This is your victory and your win! And although our work is far from finished - now is the time for us to celebrate our efforts and the triumph you all achieved.
We have a lot of work to do in the weeks and months ahead - thanking our Members of Congress who stood strong in the face of determined opposition, defending the health care law (yes it’s now a law and not a bill) against attempts at repeal, and to ensure that all of its provisions are properly implemented here in California.
The insurance companies and their allies in Congress have vowed to fight health care reform by every means possible - but we’ll be there to stop them. I will be in touch again soon about what comes next but I want to be clear about one thing…all of this happened because of you!
With sincere gratitude -
